Market Wisely

Today I checked my business voicemail to see if a client had returned my call. There was one new message, but it wasn’t my client. A pre-recorded voice reminded me to call now “for a custom designed website starting at only xyz dollars…hosting included!” I laughed for a good 5 minutes. Why is this so funny? Because I am a web designer who ALSO offers custom designed web sites and hosting to my clients. :-)

I understand that having a business is exciting and that we want to get our company in front of as many people as possible. However, don’t make the mistake of the company that called me. Market wisely! Cold calling can be beneficial, but only if you’ve done your research first. Create a targeted list of companies who could benefit from your products or services and market directly to them.

Remember: Blindly calling businesses rarely gets you anywhere…except written about in a business blog perhaps. Market wisely!
